Fall Season for MAV

The start of the school year is always a busy time for Mascoma Audio Visual, but this fall has been something truly special. With the return of fall sports, school events, Homecoming, community productions, and our regular community commitments, the Mascoma AV students and staff have been working nonstop to bring live events to our community.

Homecoming weekend was a perfect example of just how much our students are capable of. On Friday, September 25, Mascoma AV was busy supporting the Homecoming festivities, including the pep rally with live sound, as well as the evening bonfire. At the bonfire, our crew provided live sound and lighting for Mascoma AV’s own Poor Shipment student band, giving our students another opportunity to take what they have learned and put it into a real-world live production. It was an incredible night of music, school spirit, and community.

Then came Saturday: and six live athletic broadcasts.

Our crew streamed six games in one day: field hockey, girls soccer, boys soccer, football, JV volleyball, and varsity volleyball. Every one of those broadcasts was fully produced and commentated live by our students and crew. From cameras and graphics to audio, directing, switching, commentary, and managing the livestreams, there were students working behind the scenes throughout the day to make sure our community could follow the action.

That kind of production takes an enormous amount of time, energy, preparation, and teamwork. What makes it even more impressive is that the people making it happen are students who are volunteering their time because they believe in what Mascoma AV can do for their school and their community. I could not be more proud of our students and staff. They continue to show up, learn new skills, solve problems on the fly, and put in the work necessary to make these events feel truly special. This is a way for families, alumni, grandparents, and community members who cannot be at the field or gym to still be part of the moment.

And the weekend did not end there. On Sunday, Mascoma AV was back at it, running the livestream and sound for Community Lutheran Church in Enfield, continuing our regular commitment to supporting organizations throughout the community. This kind of community involvement is at the heart of what Mascoma Audio Visual is all about: students gaining real-world experience while using their skills to connect people through media, technology, and storytelling.

Mascoma AV is also proud to provide our athletic broadcasts free to the community, live on YouTube, and without advertising. Our goal is simple: make Mascoma events accessible to everyone. While other programs may charge for access to school sporting events, our students continue to put in the work to make these broadcasts available to anyone who wants to watch and support our Royals.

We often talk about Mascoma AV as a student-driven organization, and weekends like this show exactly what that means. The students are not simply learning about cameras, audio, lighting, broadcasting, or production in a classroom, they are doing it live, under pressure, in front of a real audience. They are creating something that matters to their community.

To every student who volunteered, every staff member who helped, every commentator who called a game, every person who ran a camera, mixed audio, directed a broadcast, set up equipment, tore it all down, or simply stayed late to make sure everything worked: thank you. You are the reason Mascoma AV continues to grow.

The fall season is only getting started, and if this first big weekend is any indication, it is going to be one amazing year for Mascoma Audio Visual.
