MAV – Halloween Special

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Newport Opera House Association for generously opening their beautiful venue to our Mascoma Audio Visual students. Their support provides an authentic, professional setting that elevates the students’ work and inspires them to take pride in their craft.

Opportunities like this bring tremendous value to student learning. Filming in a real performance space teaches students how to adapt to lighting, sound, staging, and spatial challenges they would never encounter in a standard classroom. It encourages them to think critically, communicate effectively, and problem-solve in real time.

Beyond technical skills, this experience builds confidence and professionalism. Students learn what it means to collaborate with community partners, respect a historic venue, and create media that meets a high standard of quality. Experiences like these help prepare them for future careers in film, broadcasting, theater, digital media, engineering, and countless other fields.

The support from the Newport Opera House Association directly enriches our students’ education, giving them the chance to practice creativity, innovation, and technical mastery in a truly inspiring environment and for that, we are deeply thankful.

Lights, Camera, Action at the Historic Newport Opera House!

On Sunday, October 26th, Seth Marrotte and his talented students from Mascoma Audio Visual visited the Newport Opera House for a hands-on learning experience. After a tour and orientation of our historic space, the students got right to work preparing for their very own “Halloween Special,” which they had written the script for themselves!

In just four hours, they filmed and edited their project on-site — an impressive display of creativity, teamwork, and technical skill!

We were thrilled to welcome this enthusiastic group and to see the Newport Opera House once again serve as an inspiring backdrop for the next generation of filmmakers and storytellers.
